DIRECTOR
GRANT COLLIE
Starting as a student of Veterinary Medicine and a Zookeeper, Grant began work at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh over 20 years ago, leaving the animals behind (or not!)
His long history in the industry includes Chief LX on the now legendary RIVERDANCE production at the Point Theatre in Dublin and has toured extensively worldwide with various productions.
Having worked around the world for many years, Grant arrived in NZ in 1998 for a short break and was 'kidnapped' by the infamous John McKay to work for Opera New Zealand. A short assignment to assist with the opening of Te Papa that led to a longer stay there in the in-house tech team. A museum fanatic was born! Te Papa was the catalyst that led to marriage, children and the relocation of the company from Europe to New Zealand.
Previously Lead Consultant and Managing Director for Museum Specialists GREAT LEAP FORWARD, Grant left to set up independent consultancy GRANT COLLIE ASSOCIATES to enable him to focus on the research and long term support services to Museum and Visitor Attraction clients.
Grant is the Principal Consultant in the company and takes a personal interest in all of our diverse projects. He still keeps his hand in as a professional Lighting Designer when a project appeals.
Somewhere in his schedule he found time to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Studies at Massey University and be elected as Hunterville Ward Councillor on Rangitikei District Council.
Grant is a passionate advocate for the needs of small and medium sized museums and cultural facilities and spends much of his time giving advice to this sector.
Grant is currently employed as the Director of the Burke Museum and Historic Precinct in Beechworth, Victoria and has recently been elected to the Executive of ICOM Australia.
